Effective service delivery to public critical- Tsogwane
30 Aug 2020
Effectively delivering services to the public is an important function of government, particularly in times where many people are struggling with the effects of COVID-19.
Speaking during the National Development Plan (NDP) 11 Mid-Term Review debate on the economy and employment sector, Vice President Slumber Tsogwane said government had to pursue innovative means to ensuring services were timeously delivered to people.
He said in his Boteti West constituency, people of villages such as Makalamabedi and Mopipi often had to travel the long distance to Letlhakane to access services, and government had to look for means of ensuring that these people access services more expeditiously.
Mr Tsogwane also said that the Central District was constrained by being the largest district that could be served by as many as four district commissioners, and said the idea of sub-diving the district could potentially lead to better efficiency in service provision.
The Vice President said the Rapid Skills Development Centre at Moreomaoto in Boteti needed to be upgraded for it to better serve the community. He also said in line with government intentions of building a knowledge-based economy, information technology investment in schools was important.
Mr Tsogwane also said that government should partner with the private sector in development projects.
He encouraged Batswana to take advantage of the improved Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency guidelines, to partake in such initiatives.
Mr Tsogwane said the Botswana Unified Revenue Service needed to be supported with its revenue collection, including tax policies geared at generating funds from the rich, who at times were prone to being involved in environment degradation through their business practices. Ends
