Recruitment based on post availability

Recruitment of Medical Laboratory Scientists from University of Botswana (UB) or Medical Laboratory Technicians from Institute of Health Sciences (HIS) is based on the availability of relevant post says Assistant Minister of health and wellness ministry, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe.

Responding to a question in Parliament on August 27, Mr Lelatisitswe said there was no preferential treatment given to any institution, adding that the ministry was committed to providing quality services through recruitment of qualified graduates from renowned institutions of learning.

As such, the assistant minister said his ministry embraced graduates for diagnostic services from both the UB and the IHS.

Mr Lelatisitswe stated that a total of 55 medical laboratory scientists graduated from UB during 2018 and 2019 adding that a total of 15 have students have been offered permanent employment while the remaining 40 were employed temporarily.

He said 12 medical laboratory technicians graduated from the IHS in 2019 with a total of seven offered permanent employment, leaving a five on temporary employment.

He said as of August 2020, 30 out of 158 Medical Laboratory Scientists were expatriates while 40 out of 321 technicians were expatriates.

Mahalapye West legislator, Mr David Tshere had wanted to now the number of unemployed medical laboratory scientists and technicians who had graduated from UB and IHS respectively.

Mr Tshere also inquired on the number of foreigners who were still employed as medical laboratory scientists and technicians. Ends
