High number of land transfers worries chairperson

Mahalapye Sub-land Board is undated with requests of land transfers within its jurisdiction.
Mahalapye Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Banthasetse Merementsi, stated during a sub-council meeting on Monday that the number of land transfers for residential and ploughing fields stood at 340 across all 12 villages under Mahalapye jurisdiction.
“More land transfers are being received at an average of 50 transfers per day,” he stated.
Mr Merementsi said in an effort to address land shortage, Sefhare and Shoshong sub-land boards had submitted base maps to the council for layout design.
Sefhare Sub-land Board submitted maps for Borotsi, Machaneng, Makwate, Mhalapitsa, Pilikwe, Sefhare, Shakwe and Ramokgonami and Shoshong Sub-Land Board for Dibete, Ikongwe, Mmutlane Mokgenene, Moralane, Mosolotshane, Otse and Poloka.
“Layouts for Machaneng, Matlhakola and Mhalapitsa have been approved and demarcation for the same are awaiting approval from the Department of Surveys and Mapping, while Borotsi and Chadibe layouts are still at committee consultations,” Mr Merementsi said.
He stated that layouts for 546 Kodibeleng plots and 157 in Tobela had also been submitted to surveys department.
“Shoshong has 1 146 approved plots, which are awaiting demarcation and once complete, allocation begins,” stated Mr Merementsi. ENDS
