27 Aug 2020
Kgalagadi North District Health Management Team (DHMT) has recorded two COVID -19 positive cases from Kang on August 16 and 17.
This was revealed by the Hukuntsi sub-district emergency operation centre chairperson, Ms Segomotso Nkwane when giving a brief report during the sub-council session on August 26.
Ms Nkwane said they received a report on August 19 that the recorded cases emanated from Princess Marina Hospital where the two patients had gone for their weekly dialysis treatment.
She said contact tracing had commenced and so far 17 close contacts had been identified.
She noted that the 17 identified contacts included health care workers, two doctors, three nurses, one driver, one health care assistant and one private security officer and fortunately their results came out negative.
Ms Nkwane said five of the close contacts would be swabbed again on the 10th day.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to fight COVID-19 at sub-district level , Ms Nkwane said there was the Rapid Response Team (RRT) tasked with keeping logbooks of all reported cases and to conduct investigations.
She said that as of August 24, 75 clients had been quarantined with 31 on home quarantine while 44 were on mandatory quarantine.
Furthermore, she said the sub-district had identified one quarantine centre being Moselebe health post in Hukuntsi and that renovations were on-going to upgrade it to meet the COVID-19 protocols.
She said Hukuntsi Primary Hospital would be used as an isolation centre.
Moreover, she mentioned that the Presidential Task Team was still assessing the possibility of using Matsha Lifelong Centre and Kang Brigade as isolation centres.
In addition, she said the sub-district had augmented the quarantine centres by adding three more Village Development Committee owned guest houses at Lehututu, Tshane and Kang.
On other issues, Ms Nkwane said they had launched a multi sectoral inspection team to check level of compliance in all government and private institutions across the sub-district.
She however raised a concern about some community members who were not complying with COVID -19 regulations especially during funerals. She indicated that some continued to rovide food and allow a high number of attendants, despite the advice given.
She therefore urged communities to comply as regulations were meant to safeguard their lives and not deny them the right to send their loved ones away in a dignified way.
Ms Nkwane also encouraged communities to utilise the Be Safe App. ends
