Govt leases out old AI camp
27 Aug 2020
The old artificial insemination (AI) camp farm near Ghanzi has been leased out to syndicate farmers, Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila has told Parliament.
Answering a question in Parliament on Monday, Mr Mzwinila said the farm, which was owned by government, was previously used as an AI camp.
He further explained that the lease agreement was for the period of 50 years starting from January 1996 and and would expire on December 2045.
He added that the lease might be renewed at instance of the lessee giving the lessor six months written notice within the last three years of the lease of the intention to renew.
However, he said government had the right to terminate the lease if land was required for public purposes.
He was responding to MP for Ghanzi North, Mr John Thite, who had asked if the minister was aware that there was a farm near Ghanzi leased out to a syndicate of farmers and if that was the main purpose of the farm.
Mr Thite wanted to know who exactly owned the farm and duration of the current lease. ENDS
