Debswana Jwaneng Mine has received accolades for helping the mining town, Kweneng and Southern districts with resources during this COVID-19 pandemic era.
Jwaneng mayor, Ms Olga Ditsie, appreciated the mine at a full council meeting on Wednesday, saying among the mine’s gestures was conversion of its accommodation facility popularly known as C-Mess into a cough centre and COVID-19 isolation facility to relief pressure from Ditsweletse Clinic, which was the only isolation centre in town.
“Over and above availing the 20-roomed C-Mess facility, the mine has also provided four-roomed porta cabins to Jwaneng District Health Management Team (DHMT) as well as eight-roomed cabins to Mabutsane DHMT to enable provision of health care in a manner that complies with social distancing protocols,” Ms Ditsie said.
She said the mine continued to assist Jwaneng community with health services at its hospital and that P11 million was availed for construction of Maboane health facility in Kweneng.
On drug availability in the area, Ms Ditsie told the meeting that there was still indication of low availability from the Central Medical Stores.
“Drug availability for the district is at 80 per cent against the national target of 97 per cent. In effort to remedy the situation, doctors are advised to use alternative drugs to avoid sending patients back home. That way we would also reduce customer complaints,” she said.
Furthermore, Ms Ditsie indicated that the previous outcry of shortage of doctors in Jwaneng had been augmented by the arrival of two medical doctors to make a total of five, as well as one health care officer. Ends
