Sub-landboards in the Okavango Sub-district, just like those in other parts of the country, are experiencing a backlog of land allocation for both residential plots and ploughing fields.
It recently emerged at the opening of the ongoing Okavango sub-district council session that the Seronga sub-landboard had a waiting list of 2 728 residential plots and 778 ploughing fields.
Okavango Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Mpoke Karapo said to facilitate allocation of residential plots, strategic environmental assessment for villages under the Seronga sub-landboard such as Ngarange, Mokgacha, Gudigwa and Beetsha had been conducted.
“The detailed layouts of Mokgacha, Gudigwa and Ngarange are awaiting to be surveyed, while the Beetsha layout has been surveyed.
Under the national registration programme, 4 346 out of 4 816 plots have been adjudicated and this presents a performance of 90.3 per cent on LAPCAS,” he said.
Mr Karapo said the Shakawe Sub-landboard had received and captured 7 872 applications in the system, of which 1 265 were ploughing fields and 6 607 residential plots.
He said currently, the sub-landboard had five layouts, with a total of 377 plots.
Under LAPCAS, the sub-council chairperson noted, 6 627 out of 7 643 plots had been adjudicated, translating to 86.7 per cent.
Meanwhile, Nokaneng Sub-landboard is said to have received and captured 750 applications in the system, of which 296 are ploughing fields and 454 residential plots.
Mr Karapo said there were 434 residential plots surveyed in Nokaneng, with layouts awaiting approval from the department of surveys and mapping.
He said consultations with village leadership and community to identify land for ploughing had started, adding that the sub-landboard would soon meet Habu leadership to form a task force that would identify land suitable for ploughing.
Mr Karapo said 2 411 out of 2 665 plots in Nokaneng had been adjudicated, which is 90.5 per cent adjudication level. ends
