The Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) will this Saturday resume the ‘Road to Finale’ with a national open tournament to be held at the Botswana National Youth Council Hall in Gaborone.
The ‘Road to Finale’ is the BTTA’s last round for this season, which resumes after four rounds of the open tournament, which was disrupted by the two-week greater Gaborone lockdown.
BTTA publicity secretary, Tiro Motswasele said this Saturday’s round would be the last tournament leading to the grand finale scheduled for September.
“Despite continuous disruptions of COVID-19 and lockdown country wide, players have not given up and showed the determination they always had.
We expect tough competition, since it is an open tournament and it might attract a good turnout since it is the last round before the finale,” he said.
Motswasele said current leader in the men’s section, Tshenolo Mooketsi of BDF was tipped to win the round.
However, he said he faced serious threat from Smash Maniacs’ Boago Malobela.
The two, he said had been interexchanging the top spot this season and were both in the national team.
“In the women’s section, top ranked Boitshwarelo Butale will be the favourite and Tshepiso Rebatenne is eyeing an upset.
Both ladies are in the national team,” he said.
After the September ‘Road to Finale’, BTTA will continue with preparations another tournament slated for December.
The winner will pocket P2 000, finalists P1 000, semifinalists P600, while quarter finalists will pocket P200. ENDS
