Investigations into a recent incident in which a 63-year-old man of Dibotong ward in Moshupa was killed by a threshing machine at Dithobane lands near Machaneng are continuing.
Speaking in an interview with BOPA, Jwaneng police station commander, Superintendent Thuso Basuti indicated that a 22-year-old man, who was with the deceased, reported that they were using the machine around noon, when all of a sudden he heard a loud thud. The young man is reported to have told the police that he was on the other side of the tractor used to power machine, and he rushed to check what the sound could be and found both the deceased’s hands trapped in the machine, with the body already looking lifeless.
He said he immediately called the neighbours and reported the matter to the police. “We rushed there and found the deceased badly injured, with his arms crushed up to the chest and shoulders.
The man appeared lifeless already, but we took him to Jwaneng mine hospital as is the procedure, where he was unfortunately certified dead.” Supt. Basuti said.
He said that even they did not suspect any foul play, investigations were still on to ascertain the cause of death.
On other issues, he decried the high rate of rape and stock theft cases in his policing area. Supt. Basuti said between April and July this year, they registered 18 stock theft and nine rape cases, which he said were more than the same period last year. ends
