Shashemooke welcomes pump station

24 Aug 2020

Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila, says a booster pump station in Shashemooke would improve residents’ livelihoods.

Speaking during commissioning of Shashemooke booster pump stationb recently, Minister Mzwinila said the infrastructure, which comprised pump stations, pipelines and storage tanks would ensure that the village had adequate water supply.

When giving a brief history of the water situation in Shashemooke, Minister Mzwinila said at first, the village got its water supply from Blue Town in Francistown via Mathangwane, which proved to be inadequate.

He said due to this challenge, government came up with a plan to construct a water booster pump to ensure sufficient water supply to the area.

Furthermore, Minister Mzwinila said the project also ensured reliable water supply to Borolong and Chadibe.

He stated also that although the water infrastructure in Shashemooke had been set up, there still remained pockets of the village that experienced water shortage, something he said would be rectified.

He, therefore, pleaded with Shashemooke residents to use water wisely, saying was meant for households and not for livestock and gardens.

Minister Mzwinila urged residents to pay water bills because they were vital for maintenance of water pipes.

He appreciated residents for their patience and cooperation in all the years that they experienced water shortage.

Kgosi Batshogile Adam applauded government for heeding their cry.

Kgosi Adam also pleaded with the minister to come up with a plan of supplying water to the other part of the village that experienced shortage of water.

For her part, general manager of Van and Truck Hire, Ms Sarah Bennett, said COVID-19  had highlighted the importance of water, hence constructing the booster pump station with speed.

This, she said, was despite challenge of the delivery of materials. Ends
