23 Aug 2020

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele says plans to enhance Nata Service Centre for a continuous provision of services are underway.

Mr Modukanele who was responding to a question from  Nata/Gweta MP, Mr Polson Majaga said the recruitment of the service center Manager or the coordinator is ongoing and would be completed next month.

He said currently the service centre had  a complement of 20 officers  who provided  Social and Community Development(S&CD), Environmental health, Self Help Housing Agency(SHHA), Council works and maintenance services.

He noted that S&CD and Environmental Health departments each had four officers, while SHHA, Matimela and the Bye-Law and Commercial Affairs departments each have one officer.

He further said council works and maintenance department had two officers, general administration had three while the overall number of drivers stood at four.

Mr Modukanele further noted that commercial affairs (licensing), revenue services by the treasury and physical planning services were offered on a weekly basis on Wednesdays only.

He said concerned officers from the Tutume Sub District traveled to Nata only once and this was due to shortage of resources particularly funds and manpower.

Meanwhile Mr Modukanele shared that ministry was eager on implementing the government decision to make Nata and other villages such as Sefhare, Shoshong, Lerala and Sehithwa into a fully-fledged sub-districts as per Presidential Directive of 2008 if resources permitted.

Mr Majaga had asked the minister if there were any considerations of closing the Nata Service Centre since it was a ‘white elephant’. ENDs
