Southern Region District Health Management Coordinator in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Ms Josephine Mosimanewakgosi says they have detected some COVID-19 cases in the region.
Speaking in an interview with BOPA recently, Ms Mosimanewakgosi said most of them were related to the movements of people from their places of abode to and from Gaborone.
She said some of the cases were detected in Jwaneng, adding contact tracing was ongoing in the region. She said most of the cases were local transmission.
The coordinator called on residents to exercise extra caution and learn to live with COVID-19.
She said it was evident that COVID-19 was within communities thus it was important to comply with COVID-19 protocols and regulations to save lives.
Ms Mosimanewakgosi said sporadic investigations that were done at shops and other work places indicated that they were complying with the protocols. She said there were few instances of shops not complying mostly not sanitizing at the entrance.
She appealed to members of the public not to hide possible suspects of COVID-19 as concerted efforts were needed to win the war against the pandemic.
Ms Mosimanewakgosi said people should consider that there was a possibility of contracting the virus therefore they should always be on guard and adhere to prescribed health protocols as well as minimise unnecessary movements. She said almost all possible contacts had been quarantined at home and mandatory confinement across the region, saying there was a team of officers to back-up Jwaneng district health management team (DHMT) for contact tracing.
