Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC), Kanye store supervisor, Mr Amogelang Sechoni has assured the Moshupa Sub-council that BTC shall remove all old pay phones and disconnected telephone line cables lying around the village.

When responding to councillors’ questions during the ongoing council session, Mr Sechoni acknowledged the grievances and pleaded with the council to give his company some time to look into the matter, plan and establish resolutions of fixing the problem.

He indicated that the corporation had not received any complaints regarding the old telephones lying around the village and advised members of the community to channel grievances to the BTC toll free numbers or the offices.

He revealed that complaints made directly to BTC technicians were mostly not recorded, therefore could not be formally attended to.

Moshupa East and Magotlhwane/Kgomokasitwa councillors, Messrs William Masibi and Sonny Phiri pleaded with the corporation to remove disused pay phones and telephone line cables from public places within the village.

Meanwhile, Mr Sechoni said there were no plans to open an office in Moshupa. He however shared that efforts could be made for BTC to offer better services to the community.

He, however, noted that the corporation acknowledged and appreciated the growth of villages and therefore was committed towards the provision of timeous and up-to-date modern network technology.

He shared that Moshupa residents could now enjoy the 4G network as it had been introduced at Moshupa Highway and Moshupa North Sides.

He said such would accord the community an opportunity to setup faster, more universal internet connection, without having to wait for a fixed line to be installed.

Mr Sechoni advised councillors to encourage the utilisation of free e-learning platform that had been availed by the corporation, meant for learners to study online and collaborate with others in different places

He noted that the platform offered opportunity for learners to access and learn Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education and Botswana Junior Certificate content online in the comfort of their homes.

He indicated that the access accorded them opportunity to view the syllabus, past examination papers, education quizzes, e-library books and video tutorials. ENDS
