20 Aug 2020

Kgosi Obuile Mambo of Mambo village has credited Constituency Development Fund for the village’s realisation of dreams and milestones.

In an interview with BOPA on August 17, Kgosi Mambo said his village hailed the government for introducing the fund, which has empowered them, adding that Mambo village like other small villages, was in the past struggling to fund community projects.

The fund was introduced to empower the local communities at constituency level.

He said during the 2019/20 financial year they were funded at a tune of P370 000 for the renovation and upgrading of the community hall.

The head highlighted that major maintenance was undertaken by changing ceiling, fitting new tiles and doors and renovating toilets and offices.

He indicated that from the money awarded for the project, they spent P283 000, the balance of which they requested to channel to fix the echo sounds at the hall.

Kgosi explained that the community hall generated income for VDC by hosting church services and other competitions.

Moreover, Kgosi Mambo stated that his village managed to fence the sport grounds and build a guard room.

He said the fencing of the grounds project was allocated P350 000, which they used P142 000.

He stated that VDC submitted an additional request to be covered by the remaining funds to build public toilets and vendor stalls at the grounds.

He highlighted that the sport grounds generated a lot of income during holidays as sport festivities are hosted there.

Kgosi noted that the sport grounds had a potential to become a major income boost for their village when upgraded to tap in to the business opportunities that accrue from sport festivals.

He explained that North East District Council had approved their additional plans and requests to defer their remaining balances to other projects.

However, he said due to the COVID-19 outbreak, these projects were suspended to give attention to the pandemic.

The village leader pointed out that currently an LA2 house construction project was ongoing to address the acute shortage of accommodation in Mambo. ENDS
