Bible Society of Botswana translation manager, Ms Baseki Baloyi, says the Wayeyi Bible script is expected to be complete next year.
Speaking during Ministers’ Fraternal event in Maun on August 18, Ms Baloyi said the translated Bible would enable Wayeyi to read the word of God in their mother tongue.
Ms Baloyi explained that the project, which commenced in 2013 at a cost of P189 000, highlighted that Bible translation was challenging because it needed both time and attention so that meaningful content could be produced.
However, Ms Baloyi expressed concern about the perception by some members of the society who attributed the translation of Bible to tribalism.
For his part, advisory committee for the Wayeyi Bible Translation Project vice chairperson, Mr Jonah Aaron, explained that their role was to create a bond between Bible Society of Botswana, the society and ministers fraternal in order to come up with ideas and opinions regarding the translation of Bible scripts.
He said members of the society played a critical role in the translation of the Bible
Mr Aaron thus applauded the Wayeyi for their contribution, pointing out that was another way of promoting Christianity as a religion.
Bible Society of Botswana was formed in 1969 in order to translate the Bible to all languages within Botswana so that everyone could understand God’s word in the language closest to their hearts. ends
