Govt implements domestic investment plan

In an effort to encourage investment in the country, government through BITC is currently implementing a plan to drive domestic investment.
Responding to a question in Parliament on August 18, Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Mr Karabo Gare said the objective of the plan was to implement interventions that would propel domestic investment and expansion.
He said the interventions would contribute towards identifying value chain opportunities for citizen participation.
He further said his ministry’s responsibility was to among others, creation of a conducive environment for the promotion of investment and development of sustainable industries and trade.
This, he said was delivered through the different policies and programmes which entailed improving doing business environment, mentoring and advisory services as well as providing concessionary financing to citizen enterprises.
In addition, the assistant minister said his ministry continued to engage with stakeholders to create awareness about existing business opportunities and reservation schemes.
He said these were done through various platforms like road shows and activation, media, expos and through other intermediary organisations to facilitate both foreign and domestic investors.
He said the recently launched CEDA guidelines were developed through interaction with stakeholders in an effort to encourage citizen participation in the different sectors of the economy.
He further informed Parliament that Mochudi East constituency had a number of investors who enjoyed services provided by the ministry and the investors included Matebeleng Milling, Oodi Investment and Franaco Pty Limited.
Mochudi East MP, Mr Mabuse Pule had asked the minister if he was aware of the lack of business services such as pharmacies, filling stations, large malls and other necessary services in Mochudi East, and what interventions were there to set up such business services in the area. Ends
