Maun Senior Secondary School receives donations

18 Aug 2020

Maun Senior Secondary School (MSSS) management has received goods worth over P10 000 from the schools’ alumni of 1995 in a bid to plough back.

The goods included 30 boxes of photocopying papers, five photocopying machine toners and five paper master rolls.

Speaking during the handing over of the goods, the school head, Ms Lekala Legwaila hailed former students for their generous support towards the school, saying their contribution would go a long way in achieving their dream of turning things around as far as performance was concerned.

The school, she said, continued to enjoy a great support as a lot of groups who graduated from the school were ploughing back into the school.

She also assured the groups of the staff commitment in taking the school to its past glory, adding that there was potential that indeed they could bring change as the level of indiscipline cases was minimal and ‘that tells us that there is a potential to do better if all stakeholders could come forth’.

Ms Legwaila appreciated that the school might look old, but the pupils were well behaved, citing that the school’s infrastructure was still intact as compared to other schools, where vandalism was rampant.

Furthermore, she noted that the school was a mission facility and funding was a serious challenge to operate the school as expected and appreciated class of 1995 and other groups for their contributions.

The subvention from the government was said to be not adequate to run the school.

Class of 1995 representative, Ms Kenanao Maupo-Molelekwa said they saw it fit to assist the school as it moulded them to be responsible citizens.

Ms Maupo-Molelekwa, who is a teacher by profession, revealed that their motto was; Ploughing Back, hence they traced their roots to assist Maun SSS as their wish was to see the school being among the best performing schools in the country.

During their time, she said, the school performed exceptionally well and she expressed belief that the current crop of pupils could defy the odds and follow on their predecessors’ footsteps.

She appreciated that the COVID- 19 pandemic had affected all sectors of the economy including the education sector, citing that learning and teaching had been affected since contact time with pupils was not encouraged.

Through the donation, she said, they wanted the school management to produce study packs for students so that they could use them to prepare for examinations and enhance their learning.

Ms Maupo-Molelekwa underscored the need for all stakeholders to join forces with school management and fight poor performance, noting that soon they would involve parents to partake in the children’s education. ENDS
