COVID-19 affects KAA revenue service delivery

18 Aug 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) revenue streams, chairperson Simon Ramaphoi said on August 17.

He said a good share of resources was channeled towards combating the pandemic.

This, he said, affected the sub-district in terms of service delivery and cash flow.

Mr Ramaphoi stated that as a result of the pandemic, KAA expended P36 965 321.98 against the projected P33 643 470 as at July.

He informed councillors that the situation was compounded by movement restrictions that came as a result of the pandemic.

He said the subsequent lockdowns impacted on their efforts to collect budgeted revenues from all streams.

Mr Ramaphoi shared concerns that the outlook for the 2020/21 financial year was rather not promising.

He said for the past five years, the council had been operating with deficits running into P33.4 million as at March 2019.

This, he said, forced the council to defer some planned projects as a result of money constraints.

Mr Ramaphoi said the council w as allocated P6 599 469.89 against an expenditure of P20 435 657.24.

He said P10 442 736.56 had been used on food relief

He said a further P4 612 114.79 was spent on the construction, maintenance of toilets and water reticulation in schools.

This was made worse by engagement of temporary social workers at a cost of P642 409.80 leaving the council with a negative balance of P13 836 187.35.

This, he said, meant constituency community projects would be deferred.  ends
