COVID-19 hampers projects

Moshupa sub-district council is currently undertaking two major projects while others have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Moshupa sub-council chairperson Mr Peter Sethibe has said.
Addressing the sub-council on August 17, Mr Sethibe said due to financial constraints brought by COVID-19, budget and procurement had been adversely affected. He said consequently, council managed to award two major tenders for the minimal land servicing at Mogaung in Moshupa and gravelling of internal roads for Moshupa mini-stadium.
“A tender for provision of minimal land servicing at Mogaung in Moshupa was adjudicated and awarded to Unique Capital (Pty)Ltd at a sum of P6 719 738.37. Another for gravelling of mini-stadium internal roads in Moshupa was adjudicated and awarded to Adricot Enterprises (Pty) Ltd at a sum of P522 894 .40,” he said.
He noted that even though the construction of the mini-stadium internal roads was 80 per cent complete, the tender process for the turf was lagging behind due to frequent lockdowns. However, he said they were collaborating with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture Development, which funded the project to the tune of P6.1m, to ensure that it went well.
Additionally, Mr Sethibe noted that due to financial constraints that resulted in deferment of 2020/2021 projects, the sub-district was now working on completing community constituency projects that were implemented in the last financial year.
“Out of the 37 projects, 30 have since been completed, five are nearing completion, one Ralekgetho LA2 house is at slab level and another, which is Kgomokasitwa LA2 is yet to be advertised. These two projects were delayed by change of projects.
Ralekgetho project was changed from the borehole drilling proposal while the Kgomokasitwa was changed from construction of a Post Office,” he explained.
However, the chairperson noted that the sub-district moved swiftly to attend to urgent matters emanating from the pandemic.
He said maintenance works in all the 22 schools in his jurisdiction were complete while construction project were ongoing.
He said approximately P7 million was used towards improved hygiene and sanitation in all their primary schools to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
He also noted that cleaners and COVID-19 Scorpions were engaged under the transformed Ipelegeng programme to ensure cleanliness and compliance with health protocols in the schools.
“Funds amounting to P10 173 163.83 have been approved for the implementation of Ipelegeng for this financial year. To date, the 2020/2021 financial year funding has not been disbursed to the sub-district though total expenditure stands at P958 755.84,” he said. Ends
