The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Public Administration Mr Dumezweni Mthimkhulu says the government has put in place and continues to devise strategies for boosting the economy of Selibe Phikwe and its region.
Mr Mthimkhulu was responding to a question that was asked by the Member of Parliament for Selibe Phikwe Constituency, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse.
He said the strategies put in place included establishment of SPEDU in Selibe Phikwe, tourism plans around dams, starting with Letsibogo and Thune dams since they both fall under Selibe Phikwe and all other economic activities that were on cards as facilitated by the government.
As such, he said, government had not considered relocation of any ministry or departmental headquarters to Selibe Phikwe for resuscitation of the economy in town.
He further said there were already some government departments and institutions established in Selibe Phikwe.
He said the relocation of any ministerial or departmental headquarters would not only be expensive but will also duplicate the efforts of organisations already on site, and relocations on its own could not boost the economy.
Mr Keorapetse had asked if government had ever considered relocation of any ministry or department headquarters to Selibe Phikwe for resuscitation of the economy of the town. Ends
