Farm meetings motivational

17 Aug 2020

Cabinet will continue to hold some of its meetings at selected farms in order to encourage commitment among small and upcoming farmers.

Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane said this in an interview, August 17 at Offy’s Farm in Taung after a cabinet meeting.

He said taking cabinet meetings to farms would motivate farmers to fully commit and utilise their farms optimally.

Mr Tsogwane said holding cabinet meetings at farms would also provide ministers with a platform to interact with farmers.

Through such platforms, farmers were able to share their experiences and challenges with relevant authorities and given  advice accordingly.

Meanwhile, Minister of Environment, Natural Resources, Conservation and Tourism Ms Phildah Kereng has said such meetings would help her ministry in selling the idea of agro tourism to farmers.

Ms Kereng said most farms were not being fully utilised despite the available opportunity of venturing into agro tourism.

Her ministry, she said, was working on game farming guidelines to facilitate venturing into game farming by locals.

She said there was need for locals to take advantage of their farms and derive more value from their land, through embracing agro tourism.

Minister Kereng said venturing into agro tourism would among other things address issues of unemployment among young people.

Offy’s Farm owner, Mr Ofentse Moremedi expressed delight that cabinet chose to hold a meeting at his farm.

Such meetings were a motivation as they would help him to put his farm on the map, he said.

Mr Moremedi, who is self-funded, said although his main project was piggery, he also kept small stock and chickens and grew vegetable.ends
