Temporary teachers SHE officers recruitment slow in Tutume
14 Aug 2020
Recruitment of temporary teachers and safety health environment (SHE) officers in Tutume region is facing some challenges.
Speaking in an interview recently, Tutume regional chief education officer, Ms Khumoyame Mosetha said since they were given authority to recruit more teachers, they experienced challenges such as people preferring urban centres over to rural areas.
Ms Mosetha noted that this had slowed down the recruitment process.
Recruitment, he said, could enable schools to adhere to COVID- 19 health protocols.
She said with some schools having high numbers pupils that warranted division of classes, there was need to recruit more teachers to take up those classes.
She also pointed out that the final process of recruitment was done at regional education offices in Serowe.
She said at some point they ended up being given less than what they had required.
As a result, Ms Mosetha said they had unfilled vacant posts, a move that forced the office to continue sending more requests to the region.
Furthermore, the chief education officer stated that they were also experiencing the same problems with the recruitment of SHE officers.
Ms Mosetha, however, noted that they had decided to advertise those posts and in case they failed to get qualified officers, they would settle for form five leavers, considering the fact that schools should adhere to health protocols during this COVID 19 pandemic era.ends
