Graduation statistics not disaggregated by districts

12 Aug 2020

Minister of Tertiary Education, Research Science and Technology, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe, says enrollment and graduation statistics are not disaggregated by districts, but rather by area of study.

He was answering a question in Parliament from Mochudi East MP, Mr Mabuse Pule, who had wanted to find out about the number of students in Kgatleng District who graduated and were awarded with degrees and were unemployed as well as whether the ministry had kept a database of such students for purposes of assisting them to find employment.

Minister Letsholathebe noted that in Kgatleng, his ministry had Oodi College of Applied Arts and Technology, which did not offer degree programmes, adding that his ministry would not be able to provide data on the number of students in Kgatleng District who graduated with degrees and were unemployed.

He explained that the ministry through Human Resource Development Council(HRDC) was developing a labour market information system, which would capture labour market information, including unemployed graduates for purposes of assisting them to find employment.

Dr Letsholathebe said the system was expected to be working in 2021.ENDS
