MPs should guide umbrella VDCs - Autlwetse
11 Aug 2020
Parliament has learnt that legislators are mandated to consult and guide village level structures including the umbrella village development committees in matters pertaining to development in constituencies.
The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, said this when answering a question in Parliament on Monday.
He said although the legislators’ roles were not explicitly stated in the Local Government (Village or Ward Development) Regulations, 2014, as a representative of the constituency, an MP was mandated to consult.
He was answering Mahalapye West MP, Mr David Tshere who had asked as to what the role of a Member of Parliament was in the umbrella VDCs. ENDS
