Police nab 8 for illegal gathering in Pandamatenga

10 Aug 2020

Police in Pandamatenga have charged eight people P1 000 each for illegal gathering and failure to maintain social distancing in line with COVID-19 protocols.

Superintendent Nelson Museke said of the eight, seven were public officers who were apprehended on the night of August 9 around 10:30 pm.

He said the eight, aged 28-35, comprised six men and two women who were found gathered at the home of one of them.

Supt Museke expressed concern over those who continued to violate COVID-19 protocols even though infection rates were escalating.

It was disappointing, he said, that public officers, who were expected to help government spread the COVID-19 message, were the ones failing to adhere to the protocols.

In another matter, Superintendent Museke said two men aged 32 and 44 were each charged P500 after they were found in possession of illegal cigarettes smuggled into the country through Martin’s Drift Border.

He said initially, a 32-year-old truck driver had been arrested who was found in possession of 40 packets and he led them to the 44-year-old man who had 10 more packets.

Supt Museke said the cigarettes were confiscated for destruction and the two men paid the charges. ends
