Wilderness Safaris pledges classrooms

Wilderness Safaris, in partnership with the Okavango Sub-district Council, plans to construct two classroom blocks at Tsodilo Primary School for it to be operational.
The school already has one classroom block and an ablution block, which were both constructed through the constituency community projects programme.
Speaking during a site visit at the school recently, assistant council secretary at Okavango Sub-district Council, Mr Losika Kula said Tsodilo needed a primary school as children schooled at far places such as Nxaunxau and Chukumuchu.
He said for Tsodilo Primary School to operate, they realised that it needed an expansion of classroom blocks.
“Our priority currently should be classrooms and the fence. Once they are accomplished, we will open the school and we intend to start with standard ones to standard four,” he said.
As for teachers’ accommodation, Mr Kula said currently there were four unoccupied BHC houses in the village and they would consider using them.
Mr Kula further said the opening of the school would improve the standard of education in the area.
Okavango Wilderness Safaris managing director, Mr Kim Nixon said they were willing to help and would, in the next six months, raise funds for the first block of classrooms and an ablution block. He said after completion of the first block, they would take another six months to raise funds for the second block and that would be done through their programme dubbed Children in the Wilderness.
“Children in the Wilderness is a non-profit organisation supported by Wilderness Safaris, which aims to facilitate sustainable conservation through leadership development and education of rural children in Africa,” he said. ends
