Some students return to Botswana
09 Aug 2020
A total of 61 government sponsored students recently returned to Botswana upon completion of their studies.
Minister of Tertiary Education, Research Science and Technology, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe, told Parliament on August 6 that the ministry was also aware of 33 students who made their own travel arrangements from their countries of study since outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ministry had an arrangement to assist government sponsored students who had come home to travel back to their countries of study as and when they requested for such and where practical.
Dr Letsholathebe also noted that the ministry in consultation with Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation assisted with finding flights for students and so far one student has been assisted to travel back to the United States of America.
This was in response to the MP for Sefhare-Ramokgonami, Dr Kesetigile Gobotswang who wanted to know the number of government sponsored students studying abroad who travelled to Botswana due to COVID-19 outbreak.
He also wanted to know the travel arrangements that had been put in place by DTEF for students to travel back to their respective countries of study in the advent of the current flight restrictions.ENDS
