Eleven cattle drown in sewage water pond

Eleven cattle have drowned in sewage water pond at Mphuthe junior secondary school in Letlhakeng.
In an interview with BOPA, Mphuthe school head, Mr Meshack Sechele said the cattle slipped into the pond and were unable to go out due to a plastic base.
He said this was not the first incident as others had perished the same way before, resulting in a bad stench emitted from the ponds.
He cautioned farmers against cutting the school fence to allow their animals into the ponds, which he said was a criminal offence, adding that sewage water was not good for animals.
Mr Sechele said the carcasses had since been removed and burned.
He said they would source funds to repair the school fence and close the holes, which farmers had been using as entry into the ponds.
He also cautioned residents to be careful when near the ponds as one could slip and fall into the ponds.
Mr Sechele said there was need for a long-term solution, as repairing the fence often was an expensive exercise. Ends
