Contact tracing is ongoing in the Letlhakeng Sub-district following a President Day Holidays’ visit by two pupils of Terrence Private School in Mogoditshane, who have since tested positive for coronavirus.
The two learners have been admitted at Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, the Deputy District Commissioner of Letlhakeng Sub-district, Ms Ikgopoleng Lekoape said after the positive results, the rapid response team acted swiftly to test the family members in Letlhakeng and Takatokwane, who had come into contact with the learners and they were awaiting results.
Ms Lekoape said another individual, who came into contact with someone who had tested positive, had been identified at Thebephatshwa and would be tested.
Meanwhile, the deputy district commissioner expressed concern about lack of adherence to COVID-19 protocols, saying many people still wanted to travel, even though the Greater Gaborone Zone was under lockdown.
She said some of the reasons advanced by people applying for permits were not valid.
Ms Lekoape said 87 permits had been issued for public officers and those who needed emergency travel for health issues or to attend funerals.
She further advised people to adhere to social distancing, especially in shopping areas, revealing that the police had so far charged 14 people for loitering without permits.
She urged residents to only leave their homes when permitted to do so and pleaded with parents to ensure that children stayed home instead of playing on the streets without even wearing masks. Ends
