Challenges impact WUC mandate delivery
05 Aug 2020
Water Utilities Corporation’s (WUC) efforts to reliably supply potable water to communities are hampered by challenges such as frequently bursting old pipes.
This was said by the corporation’s Serowe-based general manager, Ms Dothodzo Chalashika at a stakeholder engagement workshop in the village on Tuesday.
Yet another challenge, she said, was illegal livestock watering which resulted in water shortage and consumption queries.
Ms Chalashika told the workshop, which was attended by among others heads of department, that the corporation’s mandate was to supply potable water throughout the country as well as to manage waste water and sanitation services.
She explained that the mandate included planning, constructing, operating, treating, maintaining and distributing water resources in the country and extended to the supply of bulk water to various villages and settlements.
Ms Chalashika said provision of uniform service levels and upgrading of water infrastructure remained a long-term assignment for WUC.
‘’We do what we promise in our relationships with our colleagues, stakeholders and customers, and we are consistent in the delivery of our services and work,’’ she said. Ends
