Ministry of Youth Empowerment Sport and Cultural Development expenditure on the procurement of arts and culture products and services from 2016/17 financial year to date stands at P27 million.
Responding to Member of Parliament for Mmadinare, Mr Molebatsi Molebatsi, Assistant Minister Buti Billy said a total of 3 662 artists had benefited from the procurement of arts and culture products and services.
However, the assistant minister said the data provided was not disaggregated as youth, adults or any other categories, hence the ministry was unable to state how much had been procured from the youth statistics.
Therefore, the ministry had since implored all procurring entities of the arts and culture products and services to capture data in the form of disaggragated statistics in order to measure the impact of government support.
Furthermore, Mr Billy indicated that his ministry adhered to the PPADB rules and regulations when undertaking any procurement including that of artworks.
He said the ministry collaborated with PPADB to develop guidelines for the Procurement of Arts and Culture Products and Services, which he noted other ministries were expected to follow.
He also added that the artworks and related products were valued by the artists and producers themselves.
Mr Molebatsi had asked the minister if his ministry followed PPADB rules and regulations when procuring artworks and other related products for the ministry and other ministries.
He also asked for the total costs to purchase the products, and how much of the products had been procured from the youth. Ends
