BONAZAZI border lodge gutted by fire

04 Aug 2020

Bonazazi border lodge in Kazungula was on Sunday gutted by fire.

The owner of the lodge, Ms Naomi Makhondo told BOPA in an interview that the fire started outside the lodge premises and spread to the reception area that was semi-thatched.

She said the fire destroyed the reception area, storeroom, kitchen and two offices and luckily it did not spread to the rooms as the council’s fire department responded promptly after the report.

Ms Makhondo said she was not in a position to reveal the cost of the damages yet but explained that the fire destroyed the building, cutlery and bedding that was in the storeroom.

She, however, said guests could continue to make bookings at the lodge.

Ms Makhondo noted that before the outbreak of COVID 19, the lodge that was established in 2006 catered for local visitors and those from Nambia, Zambia and Zimbabwe hence the name Bonazazi. Ends
