Grow the agric sector
03 Aug 2020
Yesterday Cabinet held its meeting at Mushroom’s Farm at Gamononyane lands, where President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi encouraged the owners, the Matheatau family to increase their agricultural produce to help grow the agricultural sector.
Dr Masisi emphasised on the need to capacitate the local entrepreneurs, saying efforts would be put in place to promote locally manufactured goods and services.
The President, therefore, encouraged government departments and councils to make use of local produce and other services.
Dr Masisi further applauded the Matheatau family for taking advantage of the government’s recent new policy that allowed for part use of arable farming for agro-tourism activities.
The owners, Ms Marcia Matheatau and her husband Mr Godfrey Matheatau are small agro-tourism farmers who started in 2012.
They indicated that they were planning to eventually host events, develop a caravan park as a tourism stop for international and local tourists passing through to Namibia and other areas.
Ms Matheatau expressed gratitude at government’s gesture to hold their Cabinet meeting at the farm. She said government’s goodwill had encouraged her to further expand her agro-tourism business as well as poultry farming.
Mushroom’s Farm is a beneficiary of government’s initiative of randomly picking local services for their event-hosting. The Covid-19 Task Force meeting was also held at the farm alongside Cabinet. Ends
