Ministry addresses contractual agreements queries

03 Aug 2020

Parliament has learnt that the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development is addressing the outstanding issues and improving on adherence to contractual agreements in partnership with relevant stakeholders.

Minister Tumiso Rakgare said currently out of the 32 recommendations made in the audit report, the ministry had completed 28 and four were still pending. Furthermore, he said the ministry had no audit report conducted on the ministry querying any financial implications by government about the ministry’s office accommodation dated November 17, 2017.

He said the only report that was available on the ministry’s rented accommodation was dated June 13, 2018, and was a true record of the internal audit office by the ministry.

Mr Rakgare said the report was generally accurate, except for a few inaccuracies observed under the rental charges.

He said internal reconciliation on the rental overpayment of the first Y2K building (headquarters) reflected over P6 million as being owed by government.

However, he said the discrepancy had been presented to the landlord and he had been requested to undertake his own reconciliation with a view to come to an amicable settlement.

MP for Mmadinare, Mr Molebatsi Molebatsi had asked the minister to state the veracity of audit queries on the ministry as stated on November 17, 2017 audit report. He also asked if the minister had addressed the audit queries taking into account that they had financial implications, yet government continued to pay. Ends
