No upgrading of internal roads
02 Aug 2020
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele says there are no plans to construct or upgrade the existing Gaborone Bonnington South internal roads to bitumen standard.
He said this was due to financial constraints. He, however, said Gaborone City Council had managed to improve some of the roads in Gaborone Bonnington South by paving them with interlocking bricks and constructing storm water drainage system through the Constituency Funding programme and the recurrent budget.
The MP for Gaborone Bonnington South, Mr Christian Greeff had asked the minister for clarity on when internal roads in Gaborone Bonnington South would be constructed.
Also, Mr Greeff requested the minister to state if any study had been done to determine how much was needed to construct the said internal roads.
The minister said no study was conducted, instead an Urban Development Plan 4 had proposed P604 million for the upgrading of gravel roads to bitumen standards in SHHA areas around Gaborone including Bonnington South.
Mr Modukanele acknowledged that storm water drainage within the Bonnington South constituency was a major challenge.
“However, my ministry is constrained by lack of funding to comprehensively address the situation,” he said. Ends
