No plans to increase old age pension - Modukanele
02 Aug 2020
Government has no plans to effect an increment on old age allowance, says Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Sethabelo Modukanele.
Answering a question in Parliament from Member of Parliament for Mahalapye West Mr David Tshere, Mr Modukanele said his ministry was unable to increase the current allowance due to prevailing economic conditions aggravated by the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the old age pension was increased from P430 to P530 in 2019 and added that the allowance would be reviewed as and when the economic situation improved.
Mr Tshere had asked the minister to state when his ministry would consider increasing old age pension to P1 500 per month in recognition of the ever increasing cost of food, medicines and general livelihood. Ends
