Parents of children living with disabilities have been encouraged to make use of services offered by Tsholofelo Rehabilitation Centre in Serowe.
The centre is a community-based Non Governmental Organisation that exists to rehabilitate, stimulate and advocate for children living with disabilities in the Central District.
Speaking during a Strategic Planning workshop in Serowe on Monday, the centre coordinator, Ms Lesego Bolane said, “We encourage parents to bring their children to our school so we can help stimulate their abilities.”
Ms Bolane said the centre worked with medical professionals who assist in different areas.
She said student progress was monitored and those doing well were referred to main stream schools.
Not a boarding facility, Ms Bolane said the centre offered administrative services and in some instances, students were assessed and referred to other centres in the country.
Regarding financial assistance, Ms Bolane said they received some help from government, individuals and some donor organisations.
A parent, Ms Malebogo Thipe commended the centre for assisting children living with disabilities.
She said the school had equipped staff with knowledge to assist children on health matters.
“I encourage other parents to love their children and not give up on them as they need our support and love.
I encourage them to make use of Tsholofelo for their own benefit,’’ Ms Thipe said.
She said she did not see any reason why parents could not take advantage of the school given that it was free and could benefit them.
“Let’s not hide our children who are living with disabilities.
We are their hope in accessing the support they need.
They have challenges and Tsholofelo can be our support in alleviating those challenges,” Ms Thipe stated. Ends
