Polokwe Primary School prioritises adherence

Polokwe primary school head Mr Charles Sehularo says adhering to COVID-19 protocols is a priority at his school.
In an interview, he said generally the school community, which includes 148 pupils, was observing the set standards to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“All is going well, save for a few incidents of pupils who sometimes either forget or lose their face masks,” he said.
However, he noted that they had been able to help since a good samaritan had donated a few masks to the school.
He also noted that social distancing was practical since they had adequate classroom space, with each class comprising a maximum of 28 pupils.
He said the eight classes were able to accommodate all the learners hence no need for a double shift.
Additionally, he said they managed to mark the recommended one-metre distance in classrooms and continued to monitor the leaners.
Nonetheless, he noted that plans were underway to prepare the school library to be used as a sickbay since they would need more spaces when the reception class starts next month.
“We have been using the reception classroom as a sickbay but now that they are opening soon we have to shift to the library.
This will result in limited visitation to the library,” he noted.
Furthermore, Mr Sehularo said that subsequent to the maintenance exercise across schools, the water system toilets were back in operation after a long time.
He said he was also grateful for the eight cleaners who were engaged to ensure cleanliness in the school as the fight against COVID-19 continued.
He noted that the only challenge they were facing was shortage of hot water for handwashing as sometimes the geysers were not operational.
