Renewal of dikgosi contracts requires vetting and performance assessment, which can lead to a delay.

According to the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, the other delay might  come into  play in case of bogosi dispute.

Kgosi Godfrey Serapo had asked the minister to explain why it took time to respond to the requests for renewal of contracts for dikgosi. On a different matter, the assistant minister said the Botswana Police Service used different modes of transport in conducting patrols and tracking livestock rustlers, therefore resources were limited to cover all areas in the country.

According to Mr Autlwetse, consideration would be made to improve the current situation.

He was responding to a question posed by Bobirwa representative, Kgosi Ezekiel Joel at the ongoing Ntlo Ya Dikgosi meeting on Tuesday, who had wanted to know if the Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security would consider the usage of horses and helicopters by police when patrolling and tracking livestock rustlers in terrains, where it was difficult for vehicles to go through.
