16 Jul 2020

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Segokgo says no road has been earmarked for upgrading to bitumen standard in the Ngwaketse West region according to the National Development Plan 11 (NDP11).

Answering a question at the ongoing Ntlo ya Dikgosi on July 14, minister Segokgo said, however, the roads in the area would be maintained through dry grading.

He explained to Dikgosi that the NDP always outlined development projects planned for during the implementation period.

He said among the roads that were currently being procured for dry grading was Mokhomma-Thankane, A2 Junction-Sekoma, Jwaneng -Maokane- Samane, Khakhea-Sekwasentso.

Meanwhile, Mr Segokgo said the upgrading of Qabo-Ghanzi road to bitumen standard was also not included in the current development plan.

He said the ministry did not have funds to upgrade the road to bitumen standard, but that it was currently maintaining the road through dry grading using in house teams.

Furthermore, Mr Segokgo stated that his ministry was in the process of engaging private contractors to grade the road twice a month.

Kgosi James Khumanego of Ngwaketse West region had requested the minister to apprise on villages in Ngwaketse West with roads that had been earmarked for upgrading to bitumen standard.

Kgosi Esau Molehele of Ghanzi East region had also asked the minister if there were any plans to upgrade the Qabo - Ghanzi road to bitumen status. ENDS
