Electrical faults fires trouble Tlokweng

15 Jul 2020

Police have encouraged the public to always report any electrical incidents or faults immediately to Botswana Power Corporation (BPC).

This comes after a three-bedroomed house was gutted by fire at Masetlheng Ward in Tlokweng on Saturday evening.

In an interview on Monday, station commander, Superintendent Unoziba Rari said their investigations had shown that the fire was caused by electrical fault, leading to loss of household property valued at P38 000.

He however said they were yet to establish the value of the house from the owner since the house was occupied by four tenants, adding no injuries were recorded from the incident.

“Apparently, the house had known electrical faults which had not been attended to. We therefore appeal to the community to report electrical faults to their electricians or BPC,” Supt. Rari said.

He thus encouraged those leasing out accommodation as well as lessors to attend to or report electrical faults at the earliest possible time to avoid loss of property and lives.

Meanwhile, he said they were also investigating an incident where another house was burnt to ashes two months ago at Lenganeng Ward in Tlokweng as a result of faulty electrical wiring.

He said all incidents could have been avoided had occupants reported the faults. Ends
