15 Jul 2020

Van and Truck Hire (VTH), a company carrying out water reticulation project at Borolong and Chadibe villages, has donated 330 food hampers and 5 000 disposable masks to Chadibe residents.

Handing over the donation to the community leaders and village extension team at Chadibe on July 13, Project manager Ms Sarah Bennett said as a citizen contractor they had a responsibility of extending a helping hand to the communities they were working with.

Ms Bennett noted that during this period when the world was battling with COVID-19, people should remain united and collaborate with the government to help where possible.

She stated that the country’s economy was affected and there was need for partnership between the government, business community and other stakeholders to revive it. The project manager said they saw it fit to donate the masks and food packages to be distributed among the residents, especially as most people were affected.

Appreciating the gesture, Shashe West Member of Parliament, also Minister of Basic Education Mr Fidelis Molao said it was a good example of being a good corporate citizen.

He pointed out that the economy had been negatively affected with the government budget compressed and uncertain about meeting the needs for those who depended on government this year.

Mr Molao said despite the challenges, efforts would be made to ensure beneficiaries received services, adding that with assistance from companies such as VTH, many people’s lives remained stable during the pandemic.

He said with  5 000 masks donated, it meant each resident was going to get a mask and the food hampers would serve a good number of households.

Meanwhile Tonota Sub-district Council deputy Chairperson Mr Andy Boatile said the council assisted over 4000 people under government food basket scheme.

He therefore said VTH gesture was going to make a great difference. Ends
