13 Jul 2020
The long-awaited Mandunyane-Mathangwane road is reported to be at tender stage.
This was revealed by the Minister of Transport and Communications Mr Thulagano Segokgo during a tour of the site on July12.
Minister Segokgo explained that construction was scheduled to take three years.
He said the project encompassed five bridges over some rivers, two others crossing railway lines and an interchange at Semotswane as well as a 25-kilometre bypass road to Shashemooke starting at Mathangwane.
The project would also include the construction of access roads at the villages of Borolong, Chadibe, Makobo, Natale and Shashemooke as well as the construction of the existing gravel road that is currently being used.
Furthermore, the minister explained that about 100 properties would be affected by the project and the owners have been asked to make way.
He highlighted that at Semotswane junction only 36 properties would be relocated to accommodate the interchange.
He thus pointed out that currently, they were in the process of compensating those affected.
He added that the bypass would divert traffic especially heavy trucks from Francistown.
MP for Tonota Mr Pono Moatlhodi said households affected by the development should be given priority on land allocation.
He said the move would help to ensure that their relocation was done timeously in order for the project to be undertaken. ENDS
