BFA appoints transformation committee

13 Jul 2020

Botswana Football Association (BFA) has appointed a committee to deal with premier league transformation and sponsorship.

The committee would be expected to transform the league into a commercially viable entity.

A press release from BFA says the association has embarked on a commercial and professionalism route.

The committee is led by Jagdish Shah, while Kelesitse Gilika, Anthony Mokento and Nicholas Zachem are members.

However, Sunday Standard sport journalist, Botlhale Koothopile, said the association should have set a time frame in which the committee should deliver.

“Are we going to wait another year or four years before there is sponsorship? Aside from Jagdish at Rollers, do the members of this committee have the ability to negotiate sponsorships,” he asked rhetorically.

Furthermore, he said Zachem and Shah were blamed in some quarters for seeking to take Gaborone United and Township Rollers respectively as their privately owned entities.

Koothopile said the committee chairperson, Shah, left the league leadership not so long ago, after some clubs had expressed concern that he was  driving Rollers interests more than that of other teams.

He said he was also accused of having failed to find sponsors for the premiership.

“What makes the BFA believe he can do the job he allegedly failed to do while he was heading the BPL as chairperson,” he said. ENDS
