Government values public, private partnerships hence the donation of masks by Sankoyo Tshwaragano Management Trust, North West District chief education officer has said.
Mr Nicodemus Merafhe was speaking at a donation of 100 masks by the trust to Sedie Junior Secondary School in Maun recently.
Mr Merafhe said the donation played a major role in protecting learners from COVID-19 because masks were critical in the fight against the spread of the disease.
Mr Merafhe also encouraged learners to be confident and to believe that they could perform well academically to redeem the district known for poor performance nationally.
Sedie JSS Student Representative Council (SRC) president, Shanice Rathipana thanked the trust for the donation.
Rathipana also thanked the school management for ensuring the school was safe for learners when it re-opened last month in the midst of COVID-19.
She said learners also appreciated developments at the school which included tippy-taps, new toilets as well as sick bays.
For her part, Sedie JSS head, Ms Senatla Mokobela said they strived to follow COVID-19 protocols when schools opened in June.
Ms Mokobela said the school managed to maintain toilets and introduced a double shift to cater for learners in small numbers.
She, however, regretted that installation of hand wash basins was behind schedule.
Ms Mokobela appreciated the donation from Sankoyo Tshwaragano Management Trust, saying they would be handy since learners tended to forget theirs at home.
The trust’s general manager, Mr Momploki Saziba said the organisation was a strategic development partner in educating the nation.
Mr Saziba, however, said they could not do more for the school because the organisation was not sparred from the negative impact of COVID-19 as a result of lack of bookings at their camp sites. Ends
