12 Jul 2020
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulaganyo Segokgo, has informed the North West District leadership that plans are afoot for the Nata-Maun road make-over.
Speaking at a district leadership briefing in Maun before touring the road on Saturday, Mr Segokgo said a feasibility study had been completed.
He, however, said government was still sourcing funds for the road works.
Mr Segokgo said Nata-Maun and Sehithwa-Shakawe roads were critical to the tourism sector.
He, however, said a feasibility study for the Sehithwa-Shakawe road had not yet been done adding that Maun International Airport was also under renovation
The North West District Council chairperson, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho, said said many lives were lost on the roads due to their bad state.
He said the Maun-Toteng road as well as Sehithwa-Shakawe roads were damaged and required refurbishment or complete makeover.
The Okavango sub-region, he said, required proper roads since Mohembo Bridge was nearing completion and that would aid traffic flow.
Mr Ntsogotho also noted that the roads were used by trucks, therefore challenged government to increase weigh bridges to benefit from trucks. Ends
