Francistown Chinese Chamber of Commerce donates

12 Jul 2020

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CCC) in Francistown has once again acted on the call to fight COVID-19 by donating 420 blankets to the Francistown and North East District councils.

The blankets are to be distributed among orphans, destitute people and home-based care patients.

The CCC donated P661 000 to the National COVID-19 Relief Fund in June.

Speaking at an event to donate the blankets on Friday, Francistown mayor, Mr Godisang Radisigo said winter was a prime time for COVID-19 to spread.

“As the country is faced with the difficult task of managing the spread of COVID-19, it gives us hope as a country to see people coming forward and asking how they can assist.

This indeed shows that we are not alone in this fight,” said Mr Radisigo.

The CCC representative, Mr Jin Luo, said it was time for the Chinese community to do something for the community, having lived in Francistown for most of their lives.

Mr Jin said Francistown had become their second home, adding that the community was kind and generous towards them.

“It is important to stick together and fight challenges as a community.

Through hard work and determination, our future generations will see the results of our work,” Jin stated.

For her part the North East District Council chairperson, Ms Florah Mpetsane thanked CCC, saying the donation reflected the goodness of their hearts. Ends
