Sub-district halts plan due to funds shortage

08 Jul 2020

Molepolole Administrative Authority (MAA) chairperson, Mr Allen Jacob says due to budget cuts, the sub council will not be able to undertake its anticipated plan.

Addressing MAA councillors on TJuly 7, Mr Jacob said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development had taken a decision to reduce the district’s recurrent budget by P25 million, and that they remained with P7 million.

Mr Jacob said there would be no funding for community constituency projects and that the focus would be on completing ongoing projects.

He also highlighted that despite the disbursement of over P7 million to council for COVID-19 food relief, expenditure reached over P30 million and were hopeful that the ministry would come to their rescue.

He called on councillors to come up with strategies on how best they could utilise the little amount left for service delivery.

Mr Jacob also explained that Molepolole Sub Land Board had allocated 171 plots for residential and fields to deserving individuals.

“There is no readily available layout for allocation hence the low number of plots allocation in the sub district,” said Mr Jacob.

He said the sub land board waiting list stood at 150 656.

The council chairperson emphasised the need for people to develop their plots to avoid double allocation.

He also cautioned them against transferring their plots. Ends
