08 Jul 2020

The World Group of Companies on July 6 donated school uniforms to 1 424 pupils in Serowe.

Newtown Primary School received uniforms for 807 pupils, Dinokwane Primary School received 245 uniforms while Motalaote Lekhutile Primary School received uniforms for 372 pupils.

Male pupils recieved two trousers, two shirts, two vests, three underwears, two pairs of socks, one jersey, one pair of shoes and a packet of sweets.

Female pupils got two uniforms, two shirts, two vests, three underwears, two pairs of socks, one jersey, one pair of shoes, a packet of sweets and balls for different sporting codes.

All staff members got one blanket each and a packet of sweets.

Handing over the donations, a representative of the companies, Mr Ishmael Ibrahim said the donations were part of their Muslim belief called Zakat which stipulated ‘that if one has extra wealth he/she should give to those in need.’ He noted that Zakat was a mandatory process for Muslims and that it was a form of worship.

He said he had faith that their businesses would prosper in order for them to continue donating to the needy. Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse noted that it was not the first time that the World Group of Companies had donated uniforms.

He said they had already donated uniforms to Gojwane, Serule, Tshimoyapula, Majwanaadipitse, Moreomabele, Chakaloba, Mabeleapodi, Motetshwane and Paje primary schools.

He said the group of companies came a long way and had been showing compassion to other needy communities across the country,  adding that they donated food hampers during the lockdown.

Mr Autlwetse said the donation emanated from his partnership with the World Group of Companies after the 2014 general elections.

He said he sourced the uniforms from the group as a way of thanking constituents for making him their Member of Parliament in 2014.

He said although he did not win the 2019 general elections, he wanted to finish what he promised them. Mr Autlwetse thanked the World Group of Companies for making sure that his dream came true. He said the school uniforms would make a huge difference to the lives of many children and would help improve results because some pupils were not doing well because they had no school uniform.

Mr Autlwetse also applauded teachers for working hard in ensuring that schools re-opened on time.

He said teachers worked hard and took two months to complete the job, which normally took government five years to complete.

The MP for Serowe North, Mr Baratiwa Mathoothe thanked the companies for their generosity in donating the school uniforms.

He said the donation would significantly change the lives of pupils at their schools, as it would help restore their dignity and prepare them for learning.

Mr Mathoothe also said the donations would assist those parents who were unable to buy full school uniform for their children. Ends
