Government will never take its eyes off the ball in guarding against the spread of COVID-19 in  Botswana, says Vice President Slumber Tsogwane.

  Receiving donations in cash and kind worth over P9 million from various donors at the Office of President on July 7, Mr Tsogwane said government was committed to ensuring zero local transmition of the virus.

   The vice president noted that the country was containing local transmission despite easing some of the COVID-19 regulations to accommodate re-opening of  the economy.

 However, he  said cross border transportation of goods remained a challenge.

  Government, he said, was keen to facilitate safe movement of goods and services across the border without the risk of transmitting the virus in Botswana.

 He attributed  COVID-19 achievements to the nation’s adherence to the set protocols as a well as the compassionate and philanthropic gestures made by all citizens.

Mr Tsogwane said Batswana exemplified the solidarity and unity they were known for during the pandemic.

Various entities relentlessly responded positively towards government’s plea to relieve those in dire need, he said.

He further credited citizens for coming up with inventions convenient in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

 Mr Tsogwane said the outbreak should serve as a wake up call for local inventors and business community.

The business community  he said, needed to proactively respond to the pandemic through intensively investing in local manufacturing of goods and other commodities.

It should also revive the spirit of self-reliance within Batswana, he said. Ends
